While tossing and turning in bed one night, I came to a life changing realization: there are many “P’s” involved in the search for the perfect college, and every hopeful soon-to-be college student, centers their decision around a different “P” word. Some must focus on price, while others have the luxury of focusing on place. Some highlight the importance of good professors, while others prioritize the students they will be learning with, the people. Some investigate a college’s philosophy, while others search for a match with the schools political beliefs. I firmly believe that no matter which “P” word a student chooses to concentrate on, they are fully able to find the college that will help them reach their ideal self within their given criteria.
When I set out in search of that perfect college, I thought long and hard about what I would base my decision off of. In my heart, soul, and every limb and organ of my young body, I knew there were only two things that I could use as the foundation for the most significant decision of my life to date. Two things that, if a college could fulfill, would set them apart. Two things that would open the clouds and rain down light onto the difficult decision that is the college choosing process. These things were palm trees and pancakes.

With William and Mary’s emphasis on leadership, learning, and academic rigor, I would be able to increase the fluidity of my knowledge while strengthening leadership qualities I already possess. Between my visit to the campus over spring break 2017, and my past research about the college, I fell in love with the school, it’s beautiful setting, and the possibility of expanding upon myself and my education at a university that wants that same thing for me.
