College Admissions Essay: The Beauty Of Volunteering

The beauty of volunteering is that everyone can do it. Giving back to a community doesn’t mean you have to travel to Africa or save lives; it can be much simpler than that. Celebration Lutheran Church is one of the reasons I am who I am today. Celebration Church has given me great opportunities to travel and do mission work. I have experienced things that other people never will. I have volunteered and made an impact on the world. I have served around the United States and Canada on six mission trips in six years. I also regularly volunteered at church being an usher or working in the nursery. Along with that, I volunteered at Sartell Middle School for an entire quarter of my senior year getting over 50 hours of volunteer time. Out of all of my volunteering experience, mission trips have made the largest influence on my life. I have traveled to Duluth, Rapid City, Green Bay, Denver, Toronto and Detroit to do whatever it takes to aid the community. My goal on every trip was to leave feeling I made a difference whether it was great or insignificant. These trips led me to notice poverty, abuse and a need that I had never seen before in Sartell. This trip was the most grueling physically by far, yet is one that gave the greatest reward. Our group had incredible feedback from the community, and the locals would spot us or drive by to tell us thank you. We constantly picked up trash and soon the locals even joined in because they were so delighted to have such positive work in their area. This trip helped me realize what hard work can do; it could be a day or a week, it doesn’t matter. As long as there is an impact or a change for the better, it is worth the time. Even if the result is minuscule to me, it may mean the world to someone
