Strangely enough, I don’t regret any of those things; I regret not starting debate early enough.
In my short time with the debate team I was able to learn how to refine my vocabulary, my capacity to think well on my feet, and most importantly my ability to publically speak.
Each debate was an opportunity for me to engineering a round, winning line of argument, to improve a witty retort, and crafting poignant rebuttals. Before I saw the debate team, as just arguing for fun, but after one week of being on the debate team, I was able to see the many layers of rhetoric, logic, and drama.

As I am rounding the corner on my final season and state tournament. I have started to miss the debate team. I stay longer in practice with my teammates, and at meets, I spend more free time interacting with debaters from rival schools. I have started to realize that I’m not going to miss winning trophies or recognitions. Or even miss being able to have more trophies over the mantle than my older brother. I am going to miss the debate community, and the environment I was blessed to be immersed in
The debate community is unlike no other. With the PolitcalAnimals and Model Legislature, I was surround by diverse perspectives, but they were people who were only really passionate about politics. Similarly, with student government, I was near people with a taste for leadership and public service. But debate surrounded me with people who were passionate about countless things.
