I feel like I am a good candidate for this scholarship because, as a senior, any and all money earned and received will help me ease the burden of attending college. My goal throughout my whole childhood was to receive a full ride scholarship to the college of my dreams; however, as time has gone on and I have matured I have come to the realization that, that dream is not as achievable as I once believed it to be. I have worked hard, inside and outside of the classroom, making the grades and creating the resume that colleges are looking for, and in response I have been offered tuition waivers. Which ultimately means I am still responsible for paying for my books, room and board, part of the tuition cost, and mandatory fees.…

I think I should be considered for the Whitten Scholarship because I work hard, I’m a leader, and I’m self motivated. Juggling between being in three sports, being social, and being on the Honor Roll every year was not an easy task. I always put my school work first, but finding a balance between everything else was a task not everyone could handle as successfully as I did. In addition to my busy in school schedule, during the summer I stayed busy too. When I did have football practice or workouts, I was working at the local cable company D & P Communications.…

If I was awarded this scholarship it would greatly help me offset some of the costs of college. In order to pay for school I rely on student loans, and my dad takes money out of his retirement fund to pay for the remaining amount that I owe. It is difficult to ask my parents for money for tuition because I know my dad will be retiring soon, so every dollar he gives me results in him having to work longer before he can retire. If I was awarded this scholarship it would put a lot less stress on my family because they wouldn’t have come up with the money each semester. It would also result in me being able to pay my dad back much sooner so that he can retire.…

As I look at my life path, including my career life and education, it has always been filled with diversity and changes, but the one thing that I always held at the center of my choices was my desire to find that spark within learners (of all ages) that when lit would help them to realize and achieve their full potential. At this point in my educational path, I would like to achieve certification to work in an area that I have been drawn to since I was in high school. I feel that my past experiences, my education to this point and my love for education will benefit those whose lives I am able to touch by pursuing teacher certification. My experience working with children of differing abilities actually began when I was still in high school and the school district offered me employement/job shadowing in what was then called the SMI room or severely mentally impaired room.
