I got the chance to compete and during the last competition we had, I placed 4th out of 26. That was at the time a big accomplishment for me. After high school, I joined the military as a culinary specialist, after graduating the school (training) for the culinary specialist I was station in Korea, where I was trained more and later on was placed in a team that competed with other dfacs (which is a dining facility). The national pastime is changing. No longer are Americans waiting on the Super Bowl or the World Series to stir their competitive juices; Kitchen Stadium offers sports drama that they can really sink their teeth into...literally. Or maybe they like "Beakman's World" revisited in Alton Brown's "Good Eats." Those with a taste for the truly exotic may prefer Tony Bourdain's "A Cook's Tour." And those who prefer good ole southern flavors will not want to miss "Paula's Home Cooking" or "Semi-Homemade Cooking with Sandra Lee." The ubiquitous reality shows of this century must share the screen with shows like "30 Minute Meals" and "Emeril Live."…

At this point in my educational path, I would like to achieve certification to work in an area that I have been drawn to since I was in high school. I feel that my past experiences, my education to this point and my love for education will benefit those whose lives I am able to touch by pursuing teacher certification. When I was younger, thinking of college was fun and exciting, because I didn’t actually know about the overall stress that would come from the process of searching for the best fit. At the age of 7, I wanted to be a lawyer and there was nothing on earth that could tell me otherwise. I would go to family gatherings and act out a courtroom, and I would become that lawyer.…

My mother always taught me to put others before myself and to offer a helping hand any time the opportunity arose. If I ever saw someone fall down, I felt the need to check on whoever it was and see if he or she was okay. As a result, I practiced doing this every chance I was given and have grown to love helping others who are in need. My mother taught me not to hate and that anyone could use a helping hand, no matter who that person may be. When I joined HOSA my sophomore year of high school, I was absolutely thrilled because I realized I had found my passion: nursing.…
