As a freshman applicant, I was selected to be a part of, arguably the busiest faction, the Traditions Committee. It organizes more than eight events every semester and is responsible to host the nation’s oldest student run Winter Carnival called the Winter Ball. Winter Carnival at Middlebury comprises of several events like ski races, fire show, bone-fire, and the dance ball that all take place in a single weekend. While I assisted my seniors to organize the 91st Winter Ball as a freshman, I led the committee to host the 92nd event. It was one of the most strenuous yet rewarding experience of my life.

So, to execute a successful event either the smaller events had to be cut off or the 8 members of the Traditions Committee had to cut cost by providing nearly 200 hours of janitorial and manual labor to meet the budget shortage. As the leader, it was one of the severe issues I worried about besides issues of food safety. Had the committee cut events, the integrity of Middlebury’s traditions and the strength of the board as a group would have been affected.
