This assignment was an enjoyable way, that allowed me to discover my values and beliefs. This collage reminded me of the most important people in my life that got me to where I am today. I am mostly comforted by all the people that are surrounding me, all the people who are there to support me and keep me going when I am unsuccessful. I am mostly surprised about how far I have come as a person. In my collage, I have several pictures that emphasize alot about me. I am 19 years old and grew up in a small town in Collingwood Ontario, I have lived here all my life. Three pictures that means alot to me in the collage is the picture of my little sister as a baby, and what she looks like now. When she was born, her lungs collapsed and was rushed …show more content…
I noticed I love interacting with others, I love surrounding my self around people and making people feel loved. I also noticed I am always ready to try new things. For example, the picture of the red brick home, is the house I grew up in. The picture of the beige brick home is the house I live in now. Through out the years I have moved 10 times, I grew up with change and learned how to adjust to change very quickly. As a person, I love change and easily get dissatisified of the same thing all the time. These strengths influence my practice as nurse because caring, being compassionate and being able to adapt to change is what I believe the basic skills of nursing are. “Compassion allows a patient to feel cared for, respected and trust that the nurse has his or her best interest in mind,” Heitmeyer said. “When patients feel that a nurse truly cares, they begin to allow you in, offering the small details that may lead to a diagnosis, or information that could help you better care for him or her” (Contributer, n.d., para.12). Some challenges I see in my personal collage are being independant. I have always relied on other people to help make my decisions, and make me feel happy. I believe independance is a very imporant factor in nursing and should be a challenge I should try to succeed in. “A good nurse is able to work independently with little direction.

The artwork I chose to imagine is Van Gogh’s famous oil painting called Starry Night. It was painted in June of 1889 and has grown to be known as one of his most famous paintings. Van Gogh was a post-impressionist and painted Starry Night from memory in his apartment. The view is of a village from a window in an asylum. Nursing, from the perspective of a first-year nursing student, is a profession that is underestimated. Nurses are the backbone of all health care facilities; without them, quality of care would greatly decrease. Through the influence of maternal figures in my family, along with an inherent interest in health care and a strong desire to care for others, I was drawn to the profession of nursing. However, a nurse requires more than merely an interest and the desire to care for others. During my first few months as a nursing student, my understanding of nursing, or lack thereof has come to light.…
