Collaborative Group Reflective Report

Before the collaborative group was established, I did a mini self-reflection where I focused on what skills would be good to make the project the best it can be. Skills that I deemed important included dedication to academics, passionate about theater, information on both the technical and performing side of the stage, creative thinking, and respective of other people’s ideas. Having a dedication to academics and passionate about theater will ensure that the members of the group would be dedicated to the project and will not get off task. Having knowledge about both the technical and acting side of theater will ensure that the group will be well versed on various aspects of theater including lighting, costuming, playwriting, and blocking. Being both a creative thinker and respective of …show more content…
I bought to the table a comedy that plays with the traditional aspects of theater including breaking the fourth wall by audience participation. Another participant brought a comedy about the educational relationship between teachers and students, which would be relatable to the audience. The third person brought a radical and unbelievable comedy about buying a car and it all going wrong. None of these ideas resonated with us and we decided to start from scratch with a new idea. This is one of the benefits of working with a group because we were able to bounce ideas off of each other. We were able to categorize the good ideas from the bad ideas.
Since all of our main ideas were forms of comedy, the choice between a comedy sketch and a dramatic piece was simple. The question was now what type of comedy. We set out to do farce since two of the group members, including myself, have experience performing in a farce production. Even though some farce elements are visible in the piece, the work morphed into a parody, similar to what one could see on Saturday Night

I am a really impatient person, so taking the time to organize everything and renaming them have always been a struggle for me when I am editing. I found it interesting that each group member approach the scene with a different dynamic. Some chose to make it dramatic while others liked to be comedic. Of course, those choices did not reflect on the final edit itself since they were just ideas we liked to play around with. For example, Ali suggested to make the silence moments longer in order to make the situation more…

I personally benefited from the improvisation exercises we did in my drama class. I learned a lot from observing others’ failures. It was common for my classmates to try to “strategize” the scene, thinking it was something they could control, ignoring the fact that they were not the only persons on the stage. When their scene mates would go off the script only they were reading, I could see it in their faces that they lost their character and no longer knew what to do or say, ruining the scene. When it was my turn to go on stage, I would stay on my toes and adapt to the characters who surrounded me, creating a scene worth watching.…

Prior to starting my program in educational counseling, I strongly believed that I wanted to work in a four year setting. However, when I took ‘Group Counseling’ and met Dr. Mosqueda, she slowly convinced me to seek out the community colleges. As the class progressed, she mentioned the opportunity of doing hours at El Camino College, in particular the First Year Experience (FYE) program, so I decided to take the offer. This preface is important because it gives a glimpse into my constant eagerness to learn more about what exactly counselors do at the community college. Internship Site…

One of the most important thing I have learned in this course that has positively affected my confidence in my writing skills is the concept of writing a “shitty first draft”. In my midterm self-assessment, I discussed how I thought I was among one of the unlucky ones that was not blessed with natural writing skills. However, through class discussions, I’ve learned that one of the most important competent of professional writing is the need for constant revision. Contrary to popular believe, writing does not come easy to anyone. In order to successfully produce professional writing, it is important that one plan, draft, revise, and edit his or her work.…

The Macbeth Acting Extravaganza taught me how to manage group work better, made me analyze Macbeth in a different way, and gave me a greater appreciation of theater. I was very happy with the group I was put in, and we worked well with each other. Initially, we wanted to do the scene about Macduff’s family. We decided to go with the banquet scene because we had the perfect amount of people. The Sunday after we were assigned this project, the group got together to work on our scripts.…

Lucy McCormick, of ‘GET IN THE BACK OF THE VAN’ (GITBOTV), influenced my practice through her solo workshop and subsequent conversations because I found her style and attitude towards creative work particularly stimulating and we share an enthusiasm for pushing theatrical boundaries. Her approach demonstrates that, “the question of boundaries and extremes is always in the room” (McCormick, 2014). In our workshop on ‘The Importance of Being Ernest’ Lucy got one of my classmates, Laura, to chew up cucumber and then spit it into bread. I was aware of the process involved and, of course, ate the cucumber sandwiches, to the vocal displeasure of the audience. Laurence was unwilling to eat but was encouraged to by my response.…

Throughout the year, as a class we have been given many different challenges in either the form of an essay, speech, or group presentation. The final assignment given to us was a group project presentation. From growing up in an age filled with technology, I have come to love projects that revolve around making some form of a PowerPoint presentation. This PowerPoint though, was both difficult and interesting for the reasons of being assigned group members not of my own choosing, learning to listen to others ideas which can help me to learn something new, and using former knowledge while working together to create a clean, in depth, and well prepared presentation. With working in groups of students whom I have known since I was young but…

It was a very challenging project because we were to redesign a particular product, which should be more appealing to the costumers in terms of features, solution of particular problems, availability, and cost.…
