I want to further develop conflict resolution as a professional development skills as well as for personal development in order to improve the way I approach and deal with conflict. Particularly conflict at home is easier for me to address as I trust those close to me to be more forgiving whereas at work I tend to bite my tongue to avoid conflict with coworkers who may not be as forgiving. Recently, finding myself back in a staff role, I tend to be the one that compromises and I act as if I am ok with the decision made by the group. I understand that I can only control how I respond to the actions of others, I cannot control their actions. Unfortunately, this does not change how I deal with conflict management. Sometimes the best choices we have are picking our battles we are most passionate about or waiting until the timing is right to respond. Also, apologizing goes a long way as well. To work towards improving conflict resolution in the future, I need to start communicating my ideas and suggestions. I need to promote compromise in certain situations, speak up on group decisions so that things do not fester, and learn to separate people from the issue. I can further improve conflict resolution skills through workshops, online courses, and mentoring with a peer or manager who is good at dealing with conflict resolution. A good way to monitor your progress in developing this skill is to journal your day each night so you can see if there
