The children who don’t grow up in a structured environment are more likely to drop out and go to jail. On line 70 of “Kids Need Structure” it states, “And by the third grade, the kids who didn't have that structure and minding in the beginning start to realize they’re behind, and what do they do?... They act it out, and they’re on their way to being dropouts” (Powell 10). This evidence shows that these children need to have structure, otherwise they will start failing and just stop wanting to learn. It is crucial that the children want to learn, otherwise they will not learn and start failing. This could be avoided if they start learning structure at a young age. On line 73 it of “Kids Need Structure” it states, “If you're not at the right reading level at third grade, you are a candidate for jail at age 18, and we have the highest incarceration rate because we are not giving our children the right start in life” (Powell 10). The drill sergeant teaches the students structure, which helps them learn a skill, become mature, and learn to respect adults.
