Coffee And Teeth Experiment

Improved Essays
In my experiment I was testing to find which everyday liquid stains your teeth the most. Finding this information will help people realise they need to pay more attention to what they drink. By soaking eggshells in four different liquids for twenty-four hours, my results showed coffee was the most harmful out of the four liquids.

Introduction
The result of this project will show people how different types of drinks affect our teeth.I found inspiration for this project from last year, I saw a peer do a whitening teeth lab and I found it extremely interesting. I also found this project on pinterest and on various websites. If coffee is bad for your teeth then coke-a-cola will be just as harmful because of the color and sugar amount.

Two out of three test show that coffee had the worst effect. Coke was more corrosive than any liquid. Sprite only changed the surface texture of the egg, while water had no effect. Overall, the worst liquid for your teeth is coffee, it stained the egg darker out of all data groups.
Conclusion
My hypothesis did not predict the results of my experiment. Coffee was worse effect on your teeth than Coke-a-cola. Coke-a-cola affected the surface but not the color as much as coffee did. I believe I got these results because coffee is thicker than the other testing liquids. The carbonated drinks however corroded the surface more than coffee. How I laid out my experiment was extremely helpful, I kept everything on notes and organized. I would change some of the liquids I chose because I would like to see wider variety of drinks. I would also change how long they soaked, twenty-four hours was too long because most people brush their teeth twice between that time. For someone doing this experiment I would encourage them to do the testing in a bigger container to find out if that changes the

In this experiment I attempted to created and study the affects of a egg in a hypertonic and hypotonic solution. To conduct this experiment I used the following materials: cups, eggs, vinegar, corn syrup, spoons and food coloring. To begin the experiment I placed three eggs in vinegar to dissolve their shells, leaving behind a thin membrane that allowed water to pass in and out of the eggs. The water molecules enter inside the eggs and the eggs begins to swell. Once the eggs have sat in the vinegar for two days I removed one from the vinegar, washed the eggs and placed it in the corn syrup.…

The chalk in the Coke was speckled with brown spots. In conclusion, the Diet Mt. Dew is concluded to be the worst soda for teeth, but the chalk didn’t change enough for the experiment to be a sound source of proof. When you take a sip of soda, the sugar and acid attack your teeth for twenty minutes, starting over with each sip (“WDA”). Soft drinks have a very destructive effect on teeth. They have emerged as one of the most significant sources of tooth decay (“Colgate”).…

For my behavioral modification assignment, I decided to drink less soda. Before we were assigned this project, I had already begun changing my lifestyle to healthier eating habits by basically making healthy choices. My main goal for this assignment was to not completely stop drinking soda all together but to at least lessen the intake of how much soda I drink. My main motivation was for my skin. I was positive that the cutting out of sodas would have by far the biggest impact on clearing my skin and making it less oily.…

What prompted my research and purpose? Ideas, because the experiment idea came from a book called “ Science Fair Ideas for DUMMIES”. This idea was significance for me because I have wondered whether a bottled water from a store or filtered water would get out or prevent any stains. But, most of all I chose this experiment, because I thought it was interesting to do and I am interested in this project. My hypothesis was “Filtered water would prevent stains” because it’s more thoroughly clean than the bottled water.…

The hypothesis was that as the amount of sugar in the water increased, the amount of time it takes to dissolve sugar would increase. My group’s data from the experiment refutes this hypothesis, because the amount of sugar already present in the water had no effect on the time it took to dissolve. The only variable that changed was the amount of sugar that was already in the glass. Other variables my group attempted to avoid changing was the amount of water in the glass, how much sugar put into the glass, and the speed of mixing and dissolving the sugar. Potential causes of error include stirring at different speeds for each trial, due to human error, and using too much water and not enough sugar.…

Most often when people think of healthy teeth, a pearly white smile comes to mind. One of the most common complaint dentists hear from their patients, is discoloration. In response dentists ask follow up questions about the patients consumption of Tabaco (smoked or chewed), coffee, tea, or dark fruit juices (Ex: blueberries, grapes, blackberries exc.). These are some examples of the worst offenders to teeth discoloration; other factors such as aging also contribute to the yellowing of teeth. With age the enamel begins to thin making the layer of yellowish dentin underneath more visible (Shanard, 2015).…

"Putting the mouth back into health” elucidates the fact that oral health is far more than just cosmetic, but is linked to an individual’s wellbeing. Fluoridated water prevents tooth decay, is beneficial for all ages, is safe, free to consume and is natural. Despite the continual support for fluoride within dental, medical and scientific communities, there is marked opposition by the general public and a minority of scientists. Through a critical analysis of both the benefits of water fluoridation and its supposed disadvantages, it can be seen that its relevance and vitality for maintaining oral health is stagnant. Dental caries is a common cause of acute preventable hospital admissions in Australia, and the addition of fluoride to water systems…
