The engineers who designed and operated Chernobyl violated our code of ethics on many levels the failed to see the well being of other as a paramount. Although the engineers violate many parts of the code of ethics two parts I particular were Professional Engineers Ontario Code of Ethics, Section 77 of the O. Reg. 941 2(i) and 6. Two (i) states “A practitioner shall, regard the practitioner 's duty to public welfare as paramount” . This basically means that the engineer must regards the safety and general wellbeing of the public as of the heist importance. This was violated was the water coolant system which when the power was reduced switched of so the diesel turbine could take over but for a small amount of time the original turbine was winding down and so no enough water was being pumped. Two (i) was violated again when the chief engineer continued the experiment with low power and low water supply. These are only a few examples of how the engineer’s violated 2(i) but the provided sufficient evidence that they designing and operating engineers were no following under a code of ethics and were only determined to get the job done and produce as much energy as they could. Six states “A practitioner must co-operate in working with other professionals engaged on a project.”. Six was also violated during …show more content…
Like the radioactive graphite that was released into the atmosphere from the explosion of steam. This could have been prevented by using other materials for the moderator instead of graphite which is combustible. Chernobyl could have been prevented is the operator had seen the error in his ways and had no removed all the control rods to increase power. By removing all the control rods from the reactor the operator given up the ability to control the rate at which the reaction occurs. All of the flaws in the design and the errors made during the test could have been prevented if the operating and designing engineers were following a proper code of ethics. They violated many parts of the code in particular part 2(i) which states that the engineer must view the publics well being as of the highest importance. So all of the factors above and more resulted in one of the worst engineering disasters that has ever taken place and all of these factors could have been prevented with wright mind
