GROW Coaching Case Study

Abraham Lincoln once said, "The best way to predict the future is to create it". As a Coach, the way a session is closed with a client is just as critical as the inception. A mutual agreement must be reached on whether to terminate a coaching relationship or move on to a new challenge. Coachee feedback on the success of a session is required before this decision can be made. This paper will discuss the planning and execution of the final phase of the GROW coaching model, as well as, reflect on the outcome.

Background

During this course, we have studied the process of coaching using the GROW model to create a "Live Case". According to The GROW model (2014), this model is a simple but powerful outline for conducting coaching sessions. In the previous modules, we covered the first three letters of the acronym, e.g. Goals, Reality, and Options. In this fourth module, the Wrap-up stage is the focal point.

The questioning utilized during this meeting will assist in making this decision. The session will be considered a success, if an agreement is reached.

According to Cardon (2008), "coaches accompany their clients to find their own solutions by asking coaching questions"(para. 1). The more a coach centers the process around client, the more a client will develop autonomy and focus on achieving the established goals. I plan to incorporate the questions on the Coaching Feedback Form in Appendix 'A ' with the ones listed below. According to Examples Of GROW Coaching Questions (n.d.), the following questions are suitable for closing a session.
