An experience that displayed my ability to mentor was during my time helping out at Columbus Elementary School. There was one boy named Presley and he had trouble focusing, so I often ended up at his table trying to draw his attention away from his peers and towards his work. He was struggling with math, subtraction specifically and heavily relied on finger counting to do any problem. After about two weeks doing number lines and tally marks, he greatly improved and no longer needed any help for simpler subtraction.…

Rehearsing Your Personal Case Mentor ship As one of the options I brainstormed to address the delinquent behavior of my juvenile, I've come to believe that what most young people in the juvenile justice system needs is not services or professional assistance. Some do. Some are in the justice system because they cant stop their behavior because they have mental health problems, substance abuse problems and they need professional help to get past those barriers. But many are often suffering from severe cases of adolescence, and they need to be helped with that disorder. Learning responsibility, learning how to associate with others, learning how to make decisions, learning that there are risks in life and that there is no need…

I am interested in being a Barrett Peer Mentor because my own Peer Mentors this year have been so helpful in the transition from high school to college. I believe that it is extremely important to have a strong support system going into college and that the Peer Mentors play an integral part in this support system. Being a Peer Mentor would be an amazing way to make a contribution to this support system and help ensure the success of my residents in the upcoming school year. For me, to be a student leader in Barrett means helping to create a supportive and accepting community by being accepting and supportive to everyone and encouraging other to do so as well, being helpful and kind to everyone when given the opportunity, and to show pride for Barrett and ASU in actions and words. My goals as a Peer Mentor would include creating a community within my residence hall by making sure to keep in contact with everyone with the aim of true and genuine friendship.…

Coaches have the power to change lives. I can humbly say this as all my coaches, both good and bad, have taught me in some way what it takes to be a good athlete and most importantly how to be a good human being. They have taught me life lessons that I can only hope to preserve by instilling them into my athletes in my time as a coach. The articles I have chosen to highlight in this essay show how coaches have helped to develop character in athletes, how they pushed them to be the best on and off the field of play, and illustrate how they stepped into the lives of athletes and became so much more than just a coach.…

Mentoring Program Curriculum ϖ Goals and Expected Outcomes In this program, we want for our mentees to feel welcomed in a space where they can voice their concerns, get answers to their questions, and learn not only about themselves but about the struggles that the black community has faced throughout time and continues to battle in today’s society. As a whole, we believe that by coming together, we will be able to foster healthy relationships with these young boys who, unfortunately, based on statistics, most of the time end up dropping out of school; end up hustling in the streets; or end up in jail altogether. Through this mentorship program, we want to not only provide a network of mentors for these boys, but also help them realize that…

Introduction The coach’s role is to develop the coachee’s resourcefulness through skillful questioning, challenges, and support; not advising because when advice is given, the coach implies that he or she knows best and that the coachee does not (Rogers, 2012). Coaching requires a listening ear to ensure that the coachee is understood and is making decisions that will ultimately help accomplish the goals. During this final coaching session, my client and I will be working together to close the coaching sessions and then determine the next phase of our relationship Pre-Coaching Plan…
