The American Association of Colleges of Nursing (AACN) recommended nine essentials of baccalaureate education for professional nursing practice ("Essentials," 2008, p. 3). One of the key nurse managers’ key competencies is practicing the AACN essential I that uses written, nonverbal, verbal, and emerging technology methods to communicate effectively with a variety of disciplines to inform decision making by using analysis, inquiry, and information literacy to address practice issues ("Essentials," 2008, p. 12). The AACN essential II recommendation includes the application of leadership concepts, skills and high quality nursing care decision-making, coordination with the health care team and the oversight and accountability for the delivery of care in different settings by demonstrating awareness of the organizational complex system ("Essentials," 2008, p. 14). As soon as the CSS reported the unresolved issue and expressed her concern with the patient and the unborn child’s safety, the manager analyzed the situation and agreed with the CSS that patient will have the delivery in the O.R. The manager then discussed the situation with the doctor that was opposed of the idea of sending the patient to the operating room for surgery. The manager explained their concern to the doctor and the doctor voiced out his side of concern. With their open communication they came up with the solution that everybody taking care of the patient agreed. And with the managers’ coordination with the other department, the surgery was scheduled and pushed through. The manager listened to her staff, and helped them whenever problems or issues that they cannot handle themselves, she solved the problem by personally talking and discussing it to the involved health care team …show more content…

Collaboration with other professionals within and outside the profession and the identification of their expertise are needed to achieve the desired goal of the planned patient treatment outcome (Finkelman, 2012, p. 353). But effective collaboration will not be attained if the involved healthcare professionals are not willing to interact, share information and respect what others can contribute for a quality and cost effective patient care (Finkelman, 2012, p. 355).
