Climate Change In California

Climate change is a huge threat to the earth. It affects human, plant, and animal life, and humans are the cause of it. The main cause is the burning of fossil fuels, but there are many other ways that humans cause climate change. It’s obvious that humans are “killing” the earth, but they are also the only ones to help decrease climate change. The United States is responsible for contributing to climate change the most out of any other place, however, California is one of the main contributors to climate change in the country. California is working to reduce their contribution to climate change. “California have a history of being interested in environmental issues” (Climate Change and Questions of Justice, 29). California suffers harshly from climate change. They experience flooding, lower crop yields, droughts, extreme heat, and wildfires.”...land in California affected by wildfires will increase by …show more content…
People would have to accept and adapt to a different lifestyle. Some changes would be taken in as the government's responsibility, while other changes would be taken into everyday lives of humans. The government's responsibilities could include decrease use of fossil fuels, less deforestation, and infrastructure upgrades. Pros for decreasing the use of fossil fuels would be having more renewable energy sources to use and less greenhouse emissions in the atmosphere. Cons would be less energy production which wouldn't give off a lot of energy. Pros for less deforestation would be less droughts, and more places for wildlife. Cons are less room for civilization as it expands and less room for industrialization. Then lastly infrastructure upgrades. Pros include more energy efficient buildings and better cement-making techniques. Then of course cons which are the fact that infrastructure upgrades would require a large amount of cement and a large amount of greenhouse gas emissions to build new buildings and

For example in July San Diego and Los Angeles broke records for wettest July ever and to set another example a bridge was destroyed by a flash flood in palm Springs and in San Francisco it was sunny all day. This is a really big problem because since the state’s most important reservoirs are in the North. Another problem is if El Nino arrives they may be too warm and the Snowpack would not be able build up. “We want the snowpack for sure” said California’s state hydrologist Maurice Roos. Another worrying thing is nobody really knows what will happen if El Nino storms hit the “Ridiculously Resilient Ridge”.…

The Study of California’s newest Drought Determining when drought develops is a function of drought impacts and water users. Drought is best sought as a period of dry weather, and extended shortage of water, especially a long one that is injurious to crops. This is a dangerous hydrologic condition that not only concerns water users in the affected area but also in some other locations some water users exempt but not all the way safe. Drought is a abnormal circumstance if it is insistent. Drought is a gradual emergency.…

The Clean Air Act (CAA) is an environmental law made by the U.S. government. This federal law aims at regulating air emissions from stationary sources such as industries and mobile sources such as vehicles. It was established to authorize the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) to establish National Ambient Air Quality Standards (NAAQS) that protects the public health through regulation of emissions that have a hazardous effect on air (Sueyoshi & Goto, 2010). The CAA was established in 1963 after several deaths were experienced in 1948 and 1952 due to air pollution. It was amended in 1977 and 1990 with the objective of setting new goals to achieve the attainment of NAAQS.…

Climate change is the single most environmental crisis of our time. It is responsible for raging storms, searing heat, ferocious fires, severe drought, and punishing floods. Climate change is posing a threat to our health, our communities, and our economy. According to scientists the main cause of climate change is from the “Greenhouse effect” and certain human activity are changing the natural greenhouse effect of our planet. Burning fossil fuels, clearing of land, lead to the heating up of the earth’s atmosphere, resulting in more evaporation and precipitation, melting of glaciers and increase sea level.…

Being the worst in over 1,200 years, the fourth year of the great drought may be the most impactful devastation California has experienced destroying many fields, forests and water wells. Although California’s depression of dryness began in the ‘30’s with the Dust Bowl due to human involvement, today’s drought is developed from natural causes. Therefore, it will make it extremely hard for it to be recovered by humans, if at all, it will never be the same. For the future, California’s drought today may possibly be just the start to a even more devastating “megadrought” formed by climate change.…

Climate Change Climate change is one of the significant factors that have an impact on many of the Earth’s ecosystems, communities, and economies. Scientists have said that human activities are the leading cause of climate change and it should change that because if nothing changes now, it will continue to alter the environment that we depend on for survival. According to NASA, “human activities over the past 50 years have warmed our planet”. (NASA) Humans are a major cause in producing climate change by cutting down forests, burning of fossil fuels and driving.…

Climate scientists agree the main cause of climate change is greenhouse gas emissions. Created when sunlight reaches the Earth’s surface, it can either be absorbed by the Earth or reflected back into space. The planet releases some of the energy back into the atmosphere when the rest is absorbed as heat. These gases like carbon dioxide, methane, and water vapor: absorb the energy, decelerating or inhibiting the loss of heat back into space. Therefore the gases acting like a blanket, causing the Earth to increase in temperature.…

The issue of the California drought is one that has recently become front and center on the minds of its citizens. For the last couple of years California has been experiencing a drought noticeably hotter and drier than anything that we who live here are used to. In fact, the first six months of 2014 were the hottest California has experienced since 1934, the previous “hottest year”, beaten out by a whole degree. In fact, the NOAA, National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, reported that 95 percent of California is in severe drought conditions and nearly 60 percent of the state is listed as D4, the worst drought conditions possible (Jahad, 2014). That is quite a margin of difference seeing as changes in temperature are usually measured…

The drought in California has effected many people over the past year. The whole state is hurting and yearning for water but there is one specific group of living things, animals and people, who are suffering the most. The farmers growing California food and the farm animals providing our food are suffering the most during this horrific drought. California’s farmers are in desperate need to keep crops alive and supply their livestock with adequate amounts of water. California farmland has not been saturated enough to sustain crops any more and this is causing a decrease in amounts of produce produced and shipped off to other states.…

Climate change comes to the fore as in any discussion of environmental. Human activities such as burning fossil fuels, deforestation, and using transportation are the main causes which rapidly accelerate climate change. However, such problems can be controlled and dealt with by making an effort to implement renewable energy and conserve energy as mentioned and the sequestration of carbon dioxide. Thermal power generation burning fossil fuels such as coal, petroleum, and natural gas has been used to produce electric energy.…

Alejandro Vieyra Mr. Moody English 4 5 December 2016 Climate Change Must Stop Climate change is the changing of weather patterns in regions all around the world. The primary cause of climate change is the appreciable amount of fossil fuel emissions that humans are sending into the atmosphere. These emissions consist of carbon dioxide that ultimately retain more heat in our atmosphere than needed, thus elevating the temperature everywhere around the globe and damaging ecosystems greatly. Many people, including politicians and scientists, believe that climate change is simply a hoax. Although some prefer to believe that climate change is fake and we have nothing to worry about, there are concrete facts that prove these individuals wrong.…

As of 2015, California had one of the worst droughts in the decade. This is not just a California drought problem; not having water will affect our crops. This soon will become our whole food system. I was reading an article about the drought and it showed the timeline comparison of 2012-2015 droughts. According to the U.S.D.A. (U.S. Department of Agriculture), there was a North American heat wave.…
