My understanding of the concept of climate change and the urban heat island effect is that they are both becoming more progressively harmful to our human health, the air we breathe, and water supply in our communities. Carbon dioxide (CO2) emitted from auto and factory emissions acts as a blanket, trapping long-wave infrared energy coming off the earth making our planet much warmer. Most radiation is absorbed by the earth’s surface through the ultraviolet and infrared rays of sunlight. Some of the outgoing radiation is trapped by the earth’s atmosphere and warms it. At the same time, some energy from the sun is radiated back into space from the …show more content…
Describe changes in weather pattern variability as a factor on their health and wellbeing?
The changes in weather pattern variability can be defined as long term averages and variations in weather measured over a period of several decades. This includes the measurements of land surface, atmosphere, oceans and ice. Extreme events of climate change such as floods, droughts, hurricanes, tornadoes, and wildfires destabilize ecosystems. As well as, cripple essential components of human health such as food production, transportation infrastructure, and water management that can lead to death, diseases, displacement, and economic hardship.
Vulnerability is the tendency or predisposition to be adversely affected by climate related health effects and consists of three elements: exposure, sensitivity, and adaptive capacity. First, exposure to extreme temperatures in a single instance or repeatedly over time can include stress affected by climate change such as asthma and allergies. Second, sensitivity or the degree to which people are affected by extreme hot, poor air quality, and cold temperatures. Third, adaptive capacity or resilience, the capacity to recover quickly from difficulties as well as extreme events due to climate …show more content…
Too much CO2 in water is acidic and toxic and affects the human health, environment and aquatic life of water security. As the earth's temperature continues to rise, the significant impact on our fresh water supplies will increase evaporation that can result in droughts for prolonged periods with the potential for devastating effects such as undernutrition due to low water levels. Climate change can also cause numerous changes in water security due to pollution, changes in rainfall, an increase need for water, and a rise in sea
