Client/Student Level Of Advocacy Analysis

The one aspect that I found interesting is the client/student level of advocacy. I found this particular aspect interesting because of the approach that the counselor takes during this level of advocacy, which is really powerful. The counselor really digs deep to get to know the client from all levels. Therefore, the couselor can understand and serve the client better. More importantly, self-advocacy is vital in this level of advocacy. Furthermore, the client realizes that they are not to blame for the situation they are in and instead on an oppressed society. As a result, the client takes inituative to improve their

From these videos I have learned about many different social work practice areas that I never knew about. For instance, Human Trafficking is one practice area that I have never really heard of before and it was interesting to hear how the case managers help the victims of human trafficking basically get their life back together. I learned that they help the victims get a new ID, social security card, and etc. since many of them probably lost theirs in the process, and besides those things the case managers help them do a lot more as well become a mentor somewhat to the victims. I also learned a little bit more about the VA social work practice field and learned that to work in this field you have to really understand PTSD since a lot of veterans struggle with that because of their experience in the war and also it is really important to just know about military culture.…

In realizing the weaknesses of the control theory during my internship at the VWU, I would have to say that the power and authority that looms over many people’s heads in the court house is strikingly identifiable. The way in which the courthouse runs is what I would call “not user-friendly” to the average person. The parking is obviously set up for the elites (lawyers, judges, advocates, etc.), the “normal” people have to use the parking deck a few blocks away, if we were lucky to get a spot, regardless the majority of parking is $5.00. The judges and lawyers are extremely intimidating, in that they would rather ignore you than acknowledge you are in their presence. The people who are employed at the facility seem extremely judgmental (no…

After a certain point in my life though, I have always had a preference for English, a preference that I didn't act on until recently.…

The following therapies all share similarities when it comes to assumptions which have been made about them, solution-focused brief therapy, the recovery model, and resilience model. One assumption that is similar between both the resiliency model and focused brief therapy is that they both empower and encourage clients to choose and set their own goals for therapy or the counseling session (Riosalado, 2015). Another similarity among assumptions of the therapies are models consist of the belief that people can overcome challenges (Riosalado, 2015). Both solution-focused therapy and the recovery model share similar assumptions. Those are that they are person driven, and focus on building positive views of the future (Riosalado, 2015).…

The reading was interesting and also very useful. I thought the way in which the readings talks in detail about how academic skills contribute to effectiveness of the being a counselor. More importantly , it gives you a very detail explanation on how to go about developing these four basic skills, reading , research, writing, and presenting. Furthermore, I liked how it talked about developing critical reflection skills. Developing Critical refection skills is a process that can only be developed if one is investing the time and applying it to practice.…

DiAngelo and Sensoy tells us that it can be difficult for students to accept and understand concepts that challenge their world view.
