− Summary of findings from above reference: Children with cleft of the hard and soft palate (CHSP) had significantly poorer speech outcomes compared to the reference group and to children with cleft of the soft palate only (CSP). Therefore, the studies results confirm that the degree of the cleft significantly influences speech quality. Lastly, occurrence of hyponaslity was present in a few cases.
− This reference investigated whether speech outcomes differ between the minimal incision technique with and without muscle reconstruction in children with cleft in the hard and the soft palate and with cleft of the soft palate only. Additionally, the reference studied the incidence of subsequent velopharyngeal flaps related to the type of palatal surgery, and compared speech between children with cleft palate and children with no cleft.
