Classroom Philosophy Statement

A classroom environment is key component to a successful learning experience. I want to create an inclusive for all children to learn. Here is a list of some items I will have in my future kindergarten classroom.
First item on my list is a mini library that will have a variety of books. I will have it in the corner with a rug and beanbag chairs. I think that having books in my classroom is a great idea. Once students are done their work they may read a book from my mini library. In the morning they can grab a book to read before I start my lesson. It will promote independent reading because students can practice reading.
To help practice vocabulary words and sight words I will have a word wall. My students will be able to refer back to it

I will put my students work on this board to show that they did a great job. My students will be proud that I’m sharing their work for everyone to see.
I will have containers filled with math manipulates, markers, crayons, etc. The tubs will help keep my class organized. My students will know where to put things when it is time to clean up. Another item will in my classroom are labels. I want everything in my classroom to be labeled, for example the bookshelf, the crayon box, and the play center, etc. These labels will benefit all of my students especially my English Language Learners (ELS). They will encourage them to read with a purpose and to learn new words.
In my classroom I will have a big rug near the front of the white board. We will go over the calendar, weather and sing songs on this rug. I will incorporate the use of this rug for my kinesthetic learners. Instead of seating at their desk, I can have them move around on the rug. I will have many posters on the wall for my visual learners. My students can use these posters as a reference while I’m teaching. Some of my poster will display classroom rules and motivations quotes. For example, one might say, “You Can Do

The four stages are: Birth – two years - sensorimotor stage, two years to seven years – preoperational stage, seven years to eleven years – concrete operational stage, and eleven years to fifteen years – formal operational stage. This paper will address a classroom designed to benefit the development of toddlers who are in the preoperational stage (Lefrancois, 2012). Children in the early preoperational stage are extremely egocentric; that is they are unable to think about things from any point of view but their own (McLeod, 2010). Toddlers believe that everyone else sees, feels, and thinks the exact same way as they do.…

With such a broad spectrum of issues, part of our school's ethos is to ensure that each child experiences success and feels pride in themselves and their work. For us teachers, that can mean a move away from traditional recording methods to allow children greater freedom. So, whilst we still use pen and paper, we also encourage children to make use of iPads, laptops, sand trays, symbols, drawings, sign language (Makaton), malleable materials and individual whiteboards to express themselves. The whiteboards in my classroom are a motley and battered lot, as they have been mostly inherited from other teachers. The ones that are in the best shape (and therefore get the most use) are these Brainstorm…

In order to help special needs students, you should give them structure to help keep them moving forward, they should be put on an IEP to help reach their set goals; occupational therapy helps them be more hands on. As a result, they become better students and more focused on their academics. Music is also another way students can get their frustrations out. To engage indigenous students new ideas in education approaches include contextualization, which is linking indigenous and western knowledge systems in education. It involves incorporating aspects of indigenous perspectives and culture into schools, which aim to improve indigenous learning engagement (Matthew, Watego, Cooper & Baturo ,2005). Contextualized learning is to enable students to become fluent in a multitude of ways of knowing and to become competent in western culture as well as home culture through bridging indigenous and western ontologies (Rahman,2013). As a pre service teacher i would break down contextualization to focus on each subject and find ways to converge indigenous knowledge and culture into examples and…

In most of the classes I have taken so far, we are encouraged to get students to take ownership of their learning because they will they feel pride and responsibility to understanding the material and instructing others. Another idea I found really good for my future classroom is the long timeline that runs along the top of the class. Students will always be aware of where they are in the social studies and history unit because of arrows, and having students make arrows for the line will allow them to feel a connection and context for their learning. In that same vein, I think I will definitely have a large world map in the classroom as well as a map of Canada, complete with pins and arrows for anything we mention in class. The best part of these ideas is their application to cross curricular material.…

In the Pre-K classroom that I observed it consisted of several different centers for the children to participate in, such as: block area, dramatic play, art, library, sand/water table, music/movement, sensory area, finger painting, play dough, and the students got the opportunity to make their own snacks. Not only did the students get to participate in centers, they had the opportunity each day to go outside and play on the playground as well as having an interactive lecture every morning at circle time and when the students sat down at their tables to do their daily worksheet. I believe that the Pre-K class I observed was a mix between traditional teaching as well as constructivism, creating a balance between the two. In the morning during circle time, the teacher would “lecture” the students with the letter of the day, go over the date, months, days of the week, shapes, and the numbers up to the date it currently was.…
