In the classroom at Denton City County Day school that I observed in, there is a wall that has the days of the week, a calendar with the current month and shapes drawn out and spelled out. All of these things are in big letters where the children can easily see them. The classroom teachers are providing a word wall that is enhancing their literacy abilities. According to Isenberg and Durham (2015), a word wall displays frequently used words related to a topic of study or has a meaning full purpose and contains either new or familiar words for the children to use. The word wall provides the children with a literacy-rich environment because it is used and taught to them daily. While observing, the teachers will sing a song about the days of the week and the months of the year to teach the children what word is Monday, Tuesday and so on. The teachers used a game and pointed out to a shape and its corresponding word and then ask the children what each one is. …show more content…

Isenberg and Durham (2015) state that the library center should be appealing to the children so that they feel invited to freely pick a book and read. The center should also provide a variety of books for the children to pick from (Isenberg & Durham, 2015, p). The library center in the classroom has a variety of books ranging from short stories with few words to long stories with many words. During free time, the children migrate towards the books and pull them off the shelves because it is in an area where the books are easily accessible. They also enjoy bringing me books so that I can read with

On September 17, I observed first grade, Elkhorn City Elementary teacher, Dana Sheets. These rambunctious students had just came back from lunch and were still phasing to settling down for their lesson. The teacher did a wonderful job of catching their attention through the transition of calming them. She had the students complete a word puzzle on the wall out of their spelling words. She had made the boards setup on the wall so that each student can just run up and connect a puzzle piece, in which case is one letter to help spell the word out, the next student would follow behind, completing another word and eventually they would have the word spelled out.…

Book clubs are a great way to have kids learning collaboratively with their peers. When students work in book clubs, the learning that takes place comes more naturally. An example of such learning is determining the meaning of the text or gaining a deeper understanding of the text. In book clubs, the main goal is to build an interpretation of a text by visualizing and talking about the text with peers (O'Donnell-Allen, 2006, p.13).…

At exactly 9:30am the teacher lightly jingled a bell to notify the children very casually that class time was beginning. All the children began to filter over to the group area each seat contained a photo of a child in the class and the children state in the designated seat in preparation for the beginning of group time.…

While observing my Elementary teacher, I had noticed she uses the think aloud scaffold though out her lesson plans. A scaffold helps teachers model ways to solve a problem, then allows them to step away from the students to encourage them to use the learning material independently. She only helps the students when she sees them feeling overwhelmed or struggling. This helps her provide the students with chunks of information without overwhelming the students. A subject that I know I will be teaching is, reading comprehension in social studies.…

My classroom uses the stoplight system that many other classrooms in East View use. Every day the students start on green and have the ability to move their clips up or down based on behavior. Blue is the highest level which means they were outstanding and went above and beyond. Green is you were doing what you were supposed to and had a good day. Orange is below that and is the “make better choices” level.…

Being able to go out and observe in a classroom is something that makes me so excited to be a teacher in the future. I was able to observe a classroom and learn many techniques to encourage learning. On October 11 I went to Discovery Elementary School to observe in Mrs. Hibma’s classroom. This was a 3rd grade classroom, and this interested me because I would love to teach 3rd grade. There were 27 students in the classroom, which I found to be a large classroom.…
