I volunteered at the Buckner-Aldine Family Hope Center for two and a half hours helping with a class called Jobs for Life. The purpose of the class is to help the adults taking it learn the skills necessary to become employable and succeed in the workforce. The class consisted of all women, mostly homemakers. Since this was the second time the class met, the main focus was reading through three chapters of the textbook for the class and creating a vision board.
The Jobs for Life class is meant to help anyone that signs up become prepared to enter the workforce by the time of graduation from the program. The class is six weeks long and throughout this time the students learn about topics such as professional attire and how to create a resumé.

Both programs have a similar curriculum, but are aimed at different age groups. These programs are similar to the Jobs for Life classes in that they aim to teach teenagers the skills necessary to enter the workforce. I think that by reaching out to local community members who the students can identify with it is far more impactful than having someone who went to private school speak to students, no matter how successful they have …show more content…
It has been proven time and time again that even if students make great academic strides during the school year if they are not provided with enough educational stimuli at home, by the time they go back to school students will revert back to almost the exact same place they started at the previous school year. The community center aims to prevent this through various summer activities that vary from soccer clinics to entrepreneurship camps. Throughout the entire summer, students are also taken on college tours and visit various workplaces to learn about different careers such as hotel

The teachers must follow directions every step of the way according to the instructions given. Just as the teacher follows the direction the teacher also expects his or her students to the same thing. Being so the syllabus informs the students to follow the instruction's directions such as having discipline and to be on top of the assignments by checking the email constantly. As a student of this Education 1 online course, I have to follow the instruction that is expected of me as the student.…

I can empathize with teachers who say that the observation and evaluation process does not seem reciprocal in nature. Most of my follow-up evaluations have either been waived or conducted in five minutes or less in which the principal hits upon the highlights of my observation. Very few teaching lessons have been learned through these interactions. In her article though, Shelly Arneson includes sound practices that can be implemented to alleviate many of the concerns of the evaluation process. Her basic premise is to shift the dialogue from inspection-based conversation to a reflection-based conversation.…
