Furthermore, American Sign Language does have one informal unlike the other classrooms, which is for the desks to be arranged in a “U” formation. This would be classified as an informal rule for the fact that if the class is not in a “U” formation the first students in the class are to format the room into a “U.” The next view that was studied in each classroom were the individual professors and their teaching methods. These three professors have similar yet different and unique styles of teaching. The American Sign Language professor has a very informal style of teaching, and uses a PowerPoint to instruct the class. The class is also very interactive, which allows the students to become more comfortable with one another. The professor also allows the students to play interactive games, if the lesson is over early. Another great aspect about this professor is that he is very understanding when the students are unsure what a vocabulary word means. Also, this instructor does not assign any homework. The sign language courses “U” shaped formation allows for all of the students to be engaged in the discussions and lessons; whereas, in a regular classroom formation each of the students sees the back of another student’s head. The ability to see the professor during lectures allows the students to be focused and results in students taking more notes and paying attention. All three of the professors taught in an informal manner, which allows the students to feel comfortable in the class with their peers. The informal manner and the jokes each of the professors uses enhances the chances that students will feel at ease, which may lead to students visiting an instructors office hours. The comfort levels in each of the classrooms is noticeable, and allows the students not to stress or worry about the course. Moreover, by the professors using PowerPoints to instruct it allows the students to learn brief note taking abilities. Students are not only learning the material, but rather learning to write down the important or key aspects of a lecture. The classrooms can also be analyzed in the aspect that due to the rooms being bright and at a comfortable temperature setting the students are more awake and full of energy.
