Loud beats, shouts and footsteps fill my ears, and an awful stench of sweat makes it’s way into my nose, but this dance studio is a special place nonetheless. It may seem hectic and rowdy to some people, but not to me. An environment I entered so cautiously at first started to become natural and safe. I had never thought I would spend so much time in this place doing something I loved. I would not forget how the first day went.…

Glover has not only aligned his work with the jazz world, reviving the historic link between tap and jazz, but he has also incorporated the beats of hip-hop and rap, introducing and pushing a new alliance to the forefront of the tap world. Glover’s story is not shy of emotion or rhythm as he has self-expressed his way into the hearts of audiences all over the country and continues to spread his enthusiasm for the dance form through his students. Glover’s career is a testimony to the impact an individual can make when you allow creativity, passion, drive and commitment to take over. The “man who saved tap dancing” is the perfect description of the seven-year-old that set out to change the face of tap through his commitment to pay homage to the artists that have come before him as well as to the very roots of the dance style and who incited a stylistic revolution through his incorporation of various genres of music within the dance…

Daniel Deneau’s criticism over “The story of an Hour,” proposes that Louise Mallard experienced something ecstatic, physical, and spiritual. Deneau quotes Kate Chopin when explaining the changes Louise Mallard felt since she learned of her husband’s death. Daniel Deneau has some valid points regarding what Louise Mallard experienced however, I disagree with some aspects of his argument. Deneau explains the ecstatic experience Louise Mallard felt as being a great shock. The author states, “All readers should agree, Louise Mallard receives a great shock, goes through a rapid sequence of reactions, is in a sense of awakened and then seems to drink in ‘a very elixir of life’ (354), and finally receives another shock, a reversal, which proves lethal”…

These bypaths and digressions speak about the beauty of the old ships and naval values as well as the terrific hero-like qualities of Admiral Nelson in which his victories saved his country from Napoleon. He also speaks about the tension and turmoil at that time. Vigilance against mutiny was an obsession and officers did not trust their own crewman. This proves to be foreshadow because the idea of officers not trusting their opwn crewman can be compared similarly to Claggart’s evil doings to the ignorant Billy. These three chapters serve to provide a historical background basis of the story which is important in understanding Billy’s fate at the end of the story.…

Twenty-five seconds into our two-minute performance, the soundtrack glitched and abruptly stopped. Panic shortly set in, but we could not let our worry show. All fourteen of us kept our rhythm and timing--not one tap out of step--and finished the dance as we had practiced. Our impromptu acapella tap routine not only received a standing ovation but also helped us take first overall. The Bridge did not avoid the classical linear narrative where strong causality linked the past with the present and future. The Bridge’s narrative was developed through a four-line structure (A: B: C: D). Each letter corresponded to a storyline. Each one of these lines function in parallel, but they did not necessarily have the same salience for the narrative or the same duration in each episode. For example, A was the most significant, B less, and so on.…
