The ACE Star Model depicts various forms of knowledge in a relative sequence, as research evidence is moved through several cycles, combined with other knowledge and integrated into practice. It provides a framework for systematically putting EBP processes into operation. The model includes five major stages of knowledge transformation: 1) discovery research, 2) evidence summary, 3) translation to guidelines,4) practice integration, and 5) process, outcome evaluation. The decrease in CLABSI rates when utilizing a bundle of care guidelines that included hand hygiene, chlorhexadine gluconate skin asepsis, Biopatch® dressings at the CVC insertion site, and Curos® caps on all catheter hubs led to the development of new policies and procedures with CVC lines. The project was expanded to include the entire healthcare facility and the methods which staff utilized to care for CVC lines.
