I am reading City of Glass by Cassandra Clare and I am on page 204. In this section of reading, Jace, Isabelle, Alec, were planning to travel to Alicante to warn the clave of Valentines demon army. Simon, a vampire, unexpectedly wound up traveling through the portal with the Shadowhunters because an army of forsaken had attacked as they were leaving. Simon was hurt and knocked unconscious during combat. Jace saved his life by carrying him through the portal, breaking the law by doing so because Downworlders are not allowed to enter Alicante without the Clave’s permission. To understand why Jace and Clary’s feelings are so complex, I must explain the background situation. When Clary and Jace first met, they were not too fond of each other. However, as time progressed and they endured the most impossible situations together; they fell in love. Later, they discovered that they were actually brother and sister. Obviously they shoved their feelings aside, for it is not okay have more than a sibling relationship with a brother or sister. Ever since then, they keep experiencing awkward moments of intense feelings towards each other, but have always stopped before it had gone too far. I have two possible answers to my query: they are going to shove their feelings aside, or keep their relationship a secret. I have many reasons and examples from The City of Glass that support the possibility that they will continue to fight their affections towards each other. One is that before they left for Alicante, Jace had told Clary at the restaurant that he would no longer push his feelings on Clary and would be only her brother from now on. On the way to dinner however, Clary had been hoping that Jace would tell her he still wanted to be with her, even with the knowledge of their relatedness. Jace had always been the one to tell Clary that these immense feelings they had for each other could not be ignored, but she never failed to tell him off. She was about to give in when Jace had surrendered. This leads to me to the possibility of their relationship remaining stagnant because they had decided that it would be better to remain only brother and sister, nothing more. Another reason I have to believe this possible answer is the way Clary had hurt Jace during one of their intense episodes of forbidden affection.
