Cinematic Techniques Used In The Movie 'Camera Distance'

Improved Essays
Camera distance is a major cinematic element in the movie. Different types of camera distance are used to engage the audience. Towards the beginning of the scene, Kevin's face is shown at a close-up distance on his face to show his shock when Marv trips on a rope and catches him by his leg as he tries to escape to the third floor. Kevin then comes up with an idea as he sees Buzz’s (older brother) tarantula which got loose from an incident earlier, crawling on the steps of the stairs. Another close-up is used to show Kevin's struggle through his face as he reaches up the stairs to catch the tarantula for what he was going to do next. An extreme close-up shot shows his hand, the spider does not bite as he reaches for it and he can pick it up.

These parallel themes are mirrored by patterns in the visual strategy. Starling arrives to Lecter’s prison cell and Buffalo Bill’s basement after descending several flights of stairs and passing through several doors; they live in underground hideouts fit to hide their atrociousness . The camera angle points down at Starling which takes the place of the dissecting stares of the men in her life, and when she enters a dangerous situation, it waits for her in the room so the audience is anticipating what is in the room as much as she is.…
