Cindy Sherman was born in the year 1954 and was born in Glen Ridge, New Jersey, which is a suburb of New York City. She was the youngest of five siblings growing up in Huntington, Long Island, due to a move shortly after her birth. She was not introduced to art until she got into college because no one in her family had any ties to the art world. Her parents were very supportive of her decision to study in the field of art so she enrolled at the State University College at Buffalo. As for her work, she became one of the most respected photographers in the twentieth century. The majority of these pictures were not just about her they often depicted issues in the modern world. These issues would be things like the role of women and the role of artists in general. …show more content…
It is a black and white photograph that appears to be a young girl getting ready to take on the big city life. She looks to be suspicious of the new place she is in. She does not appear to be used to the big city feeling with the skyscrapers in the background. She is wearing a hot with a jacket as the picture only goes up to around her torso.
