Banning Cigarettes Persuasive Speech

“Cigarettes smoking is the leading avoidable cause of death worldwide” (Susan 88). Although this long paper roll of tobacco lessens stress and helps improve concentration, it has been the cause of several grating diseases and has a great impact on people's health. It contains over seven-thousand chemicals including cancer-causing chemicals and poisonous gases that not only affect smokers but nonsmokers as well because of secondhand smoke. These chemicals in cigarettes such as tar stain smokers teeth and make them look older in age. Cigarettes also hurt the environment by polluting the earth. Cigarettes pollute the earth by smokers leaving behind the left over butts. For instance, in the magazine article, “Time to Kick Butts” Thomas Novotny expresses, the environmental group Ocean Conservancy has organised the annual International Coastal Cleanup. Hundreds of thousands of volunteers scour beaches all over the world, picking up trash. By far the most common item they pick up is cigarette butts. In the article, “Acute effects of cigarettes in non-deprived smokers on memory, calculation and executive functions,” Yasuhisa Sakurai and Ichiro Kanazawa do a memory task, calculation task, and an association task on how cigarettes affect how you work. By looking at the graph Sakurai and Kanazawa state, “as shown, the [smokers scores were] more decreased in the later sessions in the memory task”(371).
