Generally when we read a letter or an article, we can assume that the main idea or purpose of the letter is the subject on which the most time is spent. The same is true with the letter Christopher Columbus wrote to the King and Queen of Spain. Columbus spent most of his letter describing the discovery, dispensing, and use of gold. Out of the thirteen points presented in his letter, gold is mentioned in nine of them. Columbus went into great detail about who could seek the gold and when they could seek it. He further described how much went to the king, as well as how it would be identified by each town’s mark.
