The soul of the Classical Era was the creation of universal religions and their spread through Afro-Eurasia. These religions shifted and hijacked whole empires and became one of the most influential developments of history by 300 C.E. Arguably the two most notable religions were Christianity and Buddhism. To understand the impact these religions had on history their origins, spread through Afro-Eurasia, and similarities are to be analyzed. The origins of Buddhism were created by the first Buddha Sidhartha Gautama in the late 6th century B.C.E. Sidhartha was a warrior son of royalty that recognized the suffering in the world around him. A large reason why both religions grew was the inclusion of all peoples. Both religions sought to gather men, women, and the unfortunate because of the general collapse through most of Afro- Eurasia. Christianity used God’s kingdom to air this message. In Jesus’ vision of the kingdom, there would be no more poor people, hunger would be unknown, sickness and bodily disabilities would no longer afflict the masses, exploitation would cease, evil forces would be spent, mentally unwell people would no longer be disturbed. For Christianity, the Ten Commandments created a base moral law for all its people. These commandments included values such as “Thou Shalt no steal” and “Thou shalt not kill”. Although for Buddhism these regulations were more of a mental task than a physical world restriction with repercussions. The Eight Fold Path and Middle Way all speak of how to conduct one’s mindset, emotions, and actions in a way to achieve Enlightenment. Violation of the Middle way meant that one would remain unhappy and in a state of suffering, eventually dying. Those that did follow however would achieve Nirvana and henceforth
