In a passage highlighted by Chris McCandless from Leo Tolstoy’s book, Family Happiness, explained the perspective he held in his mind as it stated, “I wanted movement and not a calm course of existence. I wanted excitement and danger and the chance to sacrifice myself for my love. I felt in myself a superabundance of energy which found no outlet in our quiet life”(13). He was always seeking adventure, however he didn’t know how he would reach that goal. He believed he was a courageous and thought he was destined to do this even as a little kid, but it was pure determination. In The Call of the Wild by Jack London the text states, “The dominant primordial beast was strong in Buck, and under the fierce conditions of trail life grew and grew. Yet it was a secret growth. His newborn cunning gave him poise and control”(28). McCandless,as a kid, showed he was impulsive to the ideas that came to his mind. Once he began to think of something it was an immediate reaction to try to make that come true no matter what. The reason why he went to Alaska may never be known, but the thought of him wanting to go to Alaska was another thing and he actually accomplished
