INTRODUCTION
“The school of thoughts holding that people choose to engage in delinquent and criminal behaviour after weighing the consequences and benefits of their actions”.so in detail according to the choice theory criminals commit crime after detail planning and decision making so that they gain heavy profit and will smaller their risk of being captured.one important definition in the choice theory is rational choice – according to rational choice committing crime is the own decision of criminals by knowing the consequences and benefits of the crime. So if we go in detail general deterrence give us overview that the crime rates can be decreased by certainty of arrest, conviction, and sanctioning increase. Moreover these crime rates can also be decreased by increasing the level of the police activities. For example it is quit well known that in the areas where there is more police forces the crime rate is less as compare to the areas with the minority of police forces because of the fear of being captured and punishment.
SPECIFIC DETERRENCE-
Specific theory believes in the powerful justice system so that the criminal who commit will be aware about the cost they are going to pay for the crime they commit and dare not to commit that crime again in their life. for example in case of thief if criminal sanctions take it seriously and enforce heavy punishment on offender the offender will not even think to commit that crime again in his or her life. This means that if the criminals are in the jail than there is no individual in the society who can commit crime, the rate of offences is less in the society. Some people are in the favour of it while other where against it. According to the group who decline if offender send in the jail after finding guilty on every small offence the percentage of the population in jail become very high. For example “ today more than 32000 Canadians are incarcerated”.
