Child welfare social workers were made to ensure that children are being treated right, that they are socially, mentally and physically taken care of. They go to these children’s homes to investigate their relatives and to make sure the “parent or guardian is fit to provide care, seeing if a child should be temporarily or permanently removed from his living situation and placing children with foster care or adoptive families”(Miller). A social worker works 40 hours a week but it depends on their level of education. In a survey by theguardian they found that social workers on “average [are working ] 45.9 hours per week – much higher than the average of 37.2 hours they are contracted to work, the research found”. This shows how many social workers take more time out of their lives to help other people. The first step into becoming a social worker is getting a bachelor’s degree in social work by going to college and receiving a bachelor degree from a Council on Social Work Education (CSWE) accredited college or university. Then you can get a master’s degree “whether you received your bachelor’s degree in social work or in any other field, you may apply to a CSWE accredited graduate program to earn your Master of Social work”("Your Guide for Becoming a Social Worker in 2017." ). Social workers have to complete mandatory training in child abuse and neglect. This is because social workers need to be able to detect some kind of abuse or neglect from a child’s parent. They need to be able to tell what is happening to the child, if the child is too scared to say it.
