Child slavery impacts the economy as it prevents children from getting an education. Education is a weapon against the country’s poverty. During an interview with a former child soldier in Uganda he discussed his experiences, he stated that, “I had escaped. One of the boys was stabbed in the hand and asked to bring the rebels to my parents’ home. They beat my mother and brother with clubs and axes until they died. They threatened that they’ll kill more people if I don’t come back.” Another boy who had been abducted by the LRA said, “Sometimes in the bush, the rebels would beat us without mercy whether you made a mistake or not. We would also be made to carry heavy loads on our heads for long distances and made to assemble out in the cold each day as early as 5am.” Child soldiers and slaves experience atrocities like this everyday. In order to prevent child slavery we must write articles for newspapers, e-mails, journals, web-sites, reports and magazines to raise awareness, sponsor and discuss these issues on televisions, and radios, fundraise local resources to support anti-slavery programs or campaigns and lastly, promote a zero tolerance policy against child trafficking at all levels.
