What makes a good observation? When making an observation, one would need to gather enough information to be able to fully describe what was observed. The details gathered would cover all areas of the action observed: what was seen, heard, touched, tasted, how it made one feel and can the reader relate to what is being described. In The Old Man Isn’t There Anymore, Kellie Schmitt created an effective observation by using sensory details, appeal to the reader’s emotion using pathos, and relating her experience in China to experiences in the United States.…

One of the advantages of perceptual versus instrumental evaluation is the cost and/or availability. The equipment needed for instrumental evaluation is very expensive and may be difficult to obtain depending on the setting where the evaluation is taking place. For perceptual analysis on the other hand the clinician can perform the analysis herself or can have someone else complete the analysis for little to no money. Additionally, with the expensive equipment needed for instrumental analysis the clinician and/or researcher has to be cautious about young children breaking or damaging the equipment, which is not a risk with perceptual analysis.…

“Choke” “Sticks and stones may break our bones, but words will break our hearts.” These wise words from Robert Fulgham have proven to become more apparent as people pass through their lives. Much of the pains and anxieties that many adults feel stem from the emotional damage and trauma those adults felt in their earliest years of development. The image entitled “Choke,” an advertisement from the Juvenile Protective Association, brings light to a controversial issue that has been lying in the shadows for a long time. The work uses strong emotional appeals in combination with subtle details to shock the viewer and inspire them to act.…

A well-defined checklist with observation training is critical and essential for an assessment system. Observations of child behaviors and skills provide the teacher with a powerful measure of a child’s abilities. For example, a teacher observation of a child retelling what happened last night at home with a big smile and expressive language is a truer measure of oral language skills than asking the child to retell a story in an unfamiliar setting.…

Freud – psychoanalytic Freud identified three parts to the personality, starting with a †̃symbioticâ€TM relationship between a mother and child in the first months. Here an infant sees him or herself as part of his or her mother. This is one reason why a child of about 18 months becomes †̃egocentricâ€TM, or aware of himself as separate, and able to say †̃noâ€TM and to be in control. As we go through childhood into adulthood we develop moral views and the †̃idâ€TM (I want it now!)…

This means the way at which infants receive, process, and organize information gathered from their senses (“Infant Toddler,” 2012). Throughout the observation, the infant often imitated the teacher roaring, playing peek-a-boo, and bye-bye. The infant was also capable of distinguishing between whether or not an object was still present when hidden behind the teacher. The infant would move the teacher’s body part out of the way to see the object, which demonstrates an understanding of object permanence (“Infant Toddler,” 2012). The infant was also able to perceive the teacher’s intentions with different toys.…

I found out that my observation experience allowed me to understand what observing is about and how one should record their information from their observation. It also showed me the positive and negative experience while using the anecdotal and running record methods. The one question that I had was that when I was told that my host teacher watches four infants at once, my first thought was how could she give the children enough face time especially with one infant being a premature infant. While I have read the course information, I do not recall any information about how many infants should one adult be responsible for? I also know that it is not logical for them to only watch one infant…
