Childhood is supposed to be the best time in every child 's life. Children, during their childhood years, should be happy. They should feel their parent 's love, feel protected, and cared about. However, that is not the case with a large number of children in today 's society. Many children are being neglected and abused and that has a lot of affects on the children health and future. We all might have came across a little girl or boy with dirty clothes, dirt on their face, messy hair, tears in their eyes, with no food, no care, and no love. This type of abuse is considered the worst type because it has a lot of serious long-term affects on the child and it is also the least reported because it often happens within the family. “Child sexual abuse is the involvement of a child in sexual activity that he or she does not fully comprehend, is unable to give informed consent to, or that violates the laws or social taboos of society... Child sexual abuse is that which targets sexuality and/or sexual organs, involve sexual gestures, words, pictures, actions” ( ). Sexual abuse happens when children are forced by an adult into sexual activities such as oral sex, pornography, touching, or other types of sex. Children do not have power to control or stop what happens when they are sexually abused and so the cycle continues. Children see it hard to tell when they are sexually abused because they fear that they won 't be believed. For example, in one of the cases I read through, a girl confessed to her mother that when she was 5, her grandfather sexually abused her, the mother did not believe and instead of helping, she slapped her ( ). Sexual abuse can happen in any family but it tend to happen more in families that have alcohol and drug addicts, families with a history of sexual abuse, parental mental illness, presence of physical abuse , neglect, or the presence of developmental disability in the child. …show more content…
Public awareness is very important to prevent all types of child abuse. Public awareness is not such an easy thing to do but we can obtain that by educating and informing the public about child abuse and its affects, and by also educating parents because in the majority cases of child abuse, parents are the reason behind it. We can also raise public awareness by establishing organizations to protect children rights. Child abuse has been happening for a long time now and sadly, it is considered a never-ending cycle because many children that experience it tend to take out their nightmare by abusing their own children later in the future, and so child abuse should never be overlooked. It may be impossible to completely stop it from happening, but there are many solutions that can help prevent it and help decrease the number of abused
