The study was called the ACE (Adverse Childhood Experiences Study) which surveyed about 17,000 adults with childhood abuse experience and compared them with their health history. The research found by ACE indicated the children are likely to suffer long term behavioral, intellectual, physical and mental health problems if they suffer any act of childhood violence, child abuse and neglect. Which mean they are scarred for life when abused. The North Carolina Department of Social Services states “Abuse is the intentional maltreatment of a child and can be physical, sexual, or emotional in nature. Identifying the difference between intervention and prevention are very important. They do not have the same meaning nor have different results, but each play a significant role. Prevention relates to abuse, and may target the population that is at risk, while intervention works with families who are already involved in abuse. There are some ways to prevent child abuse with available resources, which would improve the effectiveness for better programs and services of both the parent and the child. The statues put into place by the States should be enforced or reviewed if they are not working or protecting the victims. Our community, law enforcement, health care professional, educators, court system and daycare facilities are all involved and should be advocates against child abuse. Helping families keep their child safe, together and from harm is the goal. Prevention of child abuse has been resting for years in our society. Our children are most vulnerable, least powerful and unable to protect themselves from a powerful adult. There are ways to take for prevention like teaching our children not to trust everyone and tell them about the risk. Minimize the opportunity for sexual abuse by reducing or eliminating a one-adult/on child situation. Talk with your children so that barriers can be broken and they have your
