Child Labour Persuasive Essay

Do you have a favorite sport? Something you love? Well, most kids do. Whether it is playing soccer or doing ballet, everyone has their own passion. Some kids though, instead of doing what they love, they are forced to work day and night. Some of these kids don’t even get to go to school and learn. This is called child labor. Children are sent to masters who make them work long hours. This continues until they pay off their debt, which happens very rarely because the masters don’t pay them enough for the hard work they do. Children work in brick factories, carpet factories, and fields, with the sun burning their skin. They go to sleep hungry, tired, and in pain from working too long. One of the reasons child labor happens is because families need more money, so they send their oldest child off to work. Sometimes the child is sent far from their home, so they don’t even get to see their family again until they pay off their debt. Iqbal Masih was a kid who lived in Pakistan and was a victim of child labor because his family needed medicine and did not have enough money. So they sent Iqbal to earn more money. The masters make it nearly impossible for the child to pay of their debt. They find little things that the child did wrong and make them work longer and harder because of that. In the book Carpet Boy's Gift, a fiction story based on true events, Nadeem almost pays off his debt, but the master continues to find little ways to make Nadeem work longer.
