Child labor was a big problem starting the Industrial Revolution in England during the early 1800’s. One example of child labor is, during the Industrial Revolution the demand for fireplaces in house grew and people started using them more and more. The children would climb up in the small spaces and clean the soot off the sides of the chimneys. Another example would be when kids were forced by their parents or someone else to work in factories, some kids were five years old. Many if not all the kids during this time period were not made go to school. Many of the kids never learned to read or write because they were busy cleaning chimneys or working in dark factories. When it came down to the workplace the government had no laws in place in order to protect the workers or their families if something happened to them. Many kids working long hours with nothing but smoke from the machine inside their lungs. When the kids got hurt the hospitals were not advance so they couldn't help them in the right way so many kids ended paralyzed, deformed or dead. Government didn't do anything to stop this until the late 1800’s when they made it illegal for kids under sixteen to work.
