Briefing one of the clients that impacted me the most it is a female child from El Salvador. Minor who I will call her Maria. Maria is 17 years old and she arrived to our agency two months prior to become 18 years old. I mentioned this important portion of the case because, once a child becomes 18 years; children are deported back to their home country if the case is not concluded. The status is called Age Out. The case became even more completed during my clinical assessment minor disclosed being sexually active at the age of 15 years old, I found out the information at the third meeting with the client almost 16 days since the child arrived to our facility. During disclosure minor indicated that the abuser was a 22 year old male; who lived in her community. Child indicated to consent the action. Also, child …show more content…
As per ORR (Office Resettlement Refugees), which is the Macro agency that supervise us, states every minor that has been exposed to any sexual interaction, behavior or abuse either consent or no consensual; it is selected as an automatically Home Study. The Home Study may take up to 3 months or more depending of the state. At some point, I felt like I was in an ethical dilemma. It was mentally preparing the case for a fast reunification without addressing the trauma of the child. Or I should address the trauma and request the Home Study with the possibility that the minor may be deported. I felt pushed by the program which takes seriously the cases of age outs, they are like priorities one. The book that assist me to understand this portion is the Social Work Skills by Barry Cournoyer who talks about Duty of Care “As a professional social worker, you are legally obligated to provide a reasonable standard of care in delivering social work services. Clients have a right to expect that you will be competent in discharging your professional responsibilities. There is an implied contract to that

Current conceptions of child abuse and neglect in Western society are strongly correlated with the historical and ongoing social construction of childhood. Childhood is not something that is natural or a biological stage of life. During the course of this essay, it will be argued that in Western society families and childhood are socially constructed and definitions of childhood change with definitions of child abuse and neglect through space and time. There is also this belief that families are a safe haven and a place of security (McCauley, 2015).…
