Chief Master Sergeant Wendell J. Snider is the third Commandant of the Sheppard Noncommissioned Officer Academy, Sheppard Air Force Base, Texas. Falling under the Thomas N. Barnes Center for Enlisted Education, he provides schoolhouse vision and ensures the most professional in-resident Intermediate Leadership Experience training for over 900 total force enlisted members. Additionally, he oversees a faculty of 21 Airmen in validating and delivering 25 academic days of education for the Air Force’s mid-level of enlisted Professional Military Education. His keen oversight is essential to providing the Air Force adaptable Noncommissioned Officers who can operate critically in complex and ambiguous environments.

After serving honorably within the Marine Corps, Chief Snider departed the organization in 1999. He entered the Air Force in 2000. Upon entering, he completed the Structural Apprentice Course at the Naval Construction Training Center located in Gulfport, Mississippi. His first Air Force assignment was to Pope Air Force Base, North Carolina where he served as a Structural Apprentice for the 43rd Civil Engineer Squadron. In 2001, he was assigned to the 4th Civil Engineer Squadron at Seymour Johnson Air Force Base, North Carolina, where he earned distinguished graduate honors from the James C. Binnicker Leadership School. Also, at Seymour Johnson, his accomplishments earned him 4th Civil Engineer Squadron and 4th Mission Support Group Airman of the Quarter honors. In 2004, Chief Snider was assigned to be an instructor at the Structural Apprentice Course in Gulfport, Mississippi. Behind the podium, he trained 109 Airmen and amassed 3,360 hours of instruction. He has earned the coveted Air Education and Training Command (AETC) Master Instructor and Occupational Instruction Certificates. In 2008, Chief Snider temporarily left his instructor position and deployed to Afghanistan. He was assigned to the Gardez Provincial Reconstruction Team where he led 130 Civil Engineer missions and provided 13.1 million dollars in construction projects for 350,000 Afghans. His efforts earned him the AETC Major General Eugene A. Lupia Award for superb job performance.
