In the case of the Chick-n-Gravy Diner Line production defects, use of the provided check sheet quality tool is critical. Using that raw data, we can perform additional analysis that will aid in uncovering the underlying issues so that corrective actions can be taken. The first step in reviewing the data is to compile it into an Excel spreadsheet. From there, we can perform summaries against it and utilize pivot table and charts to better understand the nature of the defects. I cannot draw any theories as to the cause of these spikes in defects, but this gives us a good starting point for further examination.
Recommendation 2: Review the scheduled activities around the times where number of defects increases. A wide variety of causes may be attributed to the increase in defects, but isolating activities occurring in these timeframes should help narrow the search. Once the cause is identified, take the necessary corrective actions.
Finally, I generated a third pivot table and chart to analyze the trend of defects by category for each day. I’m interested in seeing if our issues are progressively becoming worse over time.
