The Chicago Rippers were a group of four men, identified as Robin Gecht (the leader), Edward Spreitzer, and brothers Andrew Kokoraleis and Thomas Kokoraleis (Murderpedia). These men went on a massive killing spree, targeting prostitutes. The terror these men forced their victims to endure were influenced by radical satanist views. "Gecht read from the Satanic bible"(Jensen,1) while the other cult members violated and aggressively harmed their victims. Indoctrination in a cult is often found when the cult follows a certain religious path. The Chicago Rippers believed that they were the sons of Satan, fulfilling their responsibilities to attack their victims and brutally torture and murder them. The leader of the cult, Robin Gecht, was able to manipulate and persuade the new members of the cult into committing unspeakable acts (Gates, 1). Also noted in the Chicago Rippers cult were signs of groupthink. Groupthink occurred within the cult because of each members lack of individual responsibility when committing the violent acts against their victims. Groupthink can also correlate into deindividuation, or the feeling of less responsibility for actions done within a group. The men within the cult believed their leaders commands were unarguable, and conformed to Gechts decisions. Cult leaders may also use appealing benefits for joining cults in order to lure new members into the cult, and forcing them to strongly commit to the cult. These forms of leadership include aspects of brainwashing, and manipulation, which are what may have happened to the new members of the Chicago Rippers and Vampire
