Math is playing an important role in our life in different areas. This task is aimed to investigate how chi-squared test is used in the area of medical science. The reason I choose this task is that I studied chi-squared test in class and have interest in this topic and I would like to find out what other use does it have. An example of how to use chi-squared test to find out the way to cure a disease will be given to analyze the mathematical process of chi-squared test. In the stage of investigating, research skills will be used. I will investigate how chi-squared test is used in medical and choose one case that is suitable for the internal assessment. Calculating skills will be used in the calculation section. My planning is that, I will introduce what a chi-squared test is and what it is mainly used for in the area of medical science. Then, I will then briefly introduce the disease peptic ulcer which will be investigated in the internal assessment. Then I will collect some data from the internet and study the rate of heal and different treatments of a selection of peptic ulcer patients who have similar symptoms to prove rate of heal is dependent on treatments. To do this, I will conduct a chi-squared (χ2) test and establish two hypotheses: the null hypothesis, that the two factors, rate of heal and …show more content…
The significance level is a measure of how certain we want to be about our results. Low significance level leads to a low probability that the experimental results happened by chance and high significance level leads to a high probability that the experimental results happened by chance. Usually a significance level of 5% is used by the scientists, written in decimal as 0.05. Because this means that the results reached this significance level will have at most a 5% chance being reproduced in a random sampling process. Follow the convention and set the significance level at

The last significant digit is the rounded digit and its value (rounded up or down) is determined by the following digit. A digit rounds up for numbers 5-9 and down for 0-4. [Note: Silverberg has more complicated rules for rounding when the next-place digit is a 5, but in this course we are using the aforementioned system.] For example 4.589 to three significant figures rounds to 4.59, where 4.581 to three significant figures rounds to 4.58. Consistent adherence to these rules is crucial in this course because of the amount of information contained in significant figures-- the number of significant figures can reveal the accuracy of a calculation, the reliability of data, and the specificity with which it was measured.…

    1. Significant figures are all the digits that can be known precisely in measurement as well as a last estimated digit. 2. The measurements are continuously reported to the correct number of significant figures, because the calculated answer frequently depends on the number of significant figures in the values used in the calculation. To determine significant rules in measurements, there are six rules that are applied to establish significant figures.…

The purpose of creating this scientific investigation was to see which type of shoe would kick a soccer ball the furthest. The hypothesis for this project was, “If the type of shoe affects the ball’s distance traveled when kicked, then the cleat will kick the ball the furthest.” The independent variable was the type of shoe. The dependent variable was the distance the ball traveled. The way the responding or dependent variable was measured was the distance the ball has traveled.…

“ The issue is not whether there is variation, but whether the variation is significant”. During your research variation will always occur, it is up to the research to determine the threshold, when does variation become significant or just coincidental. One of the most commonly used Confidence Interval is 95%, if the sample is due to coincidence, the difference is not significant we will fail to reject the null hypothesis, however if the difference is significant we will reject the null hypothesis. The null hypothesis, written as H0 states that nothing new has happened and the old theory still stands true. To determine if the variation is significant or coincidental we observed the p value, if the p value is greater than the assigned alpha…

All Canadians like hockey, everyone in Alaska lives in igloos, and all homeless people are lazy and drug addicts. Assumptions make people think of people as just one thing, when they really aren’t; they are much more. Two famous authors, Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie and Sherman Alexie clearly state how single stories block people's perspective, by showing them just one side of the story. They use their own experiences to show how assumptions relate to stereotypes. Even I made an assumption of my soccer team.…
