What is love? People can describe love in different forms, but for me it’s a deep feeling of affection for something or someone. Humans can feel love for their families, friends, their beloved, inanimate objects, etc… Let’s talk about the romantic love, which is the way people feel about their beloved when they are in love with them. This love feels different than the other things they feel love for. Romantic love is special because it has a motivation and a purpose, which can be proved by the reading what we did last week, “Chemistry of Love: Scanning the Brain “in Love”” by Helen Fisher. Her most important finding in this chapter is that romantic love is a drive that makes humans have sexual relations, and ultimately reproduce.

We may think that romantic love is an emotion, but in reality is a motivation system to have a sexual relationship. Helen states that “Each one of us is looking for his own matching half … most lovers feel incomplete until they have achieved emotional union with a beloved” (Fisher, 2004, p. 67). This means that people are looking for their other half in a sexual relationship in order to feel complete by accomplishing their goal of being together with their beloved as one person. I was very surprised to find out that romantic love is basically an incentive to have sexual relationship with the person you love, because I thought it was more about feelings and being romantic. Now I understand when William, one of the guys in the experiment of love, said that he felt incomplete, because her beloved was far away in another state. I believe that it was due to the lack of a sexual relationship makes him feel that way.
