Cocaine Report Cocaine is a chemical compound consisting of seventeen carbon, twelve hydrogen, one nitrogen, and four oxygen. It comes from the coca plant and is used as a local anesthetic for medical uses, but is more often used as a highly addictive street drug. It has a mood elevating affect by releasing dopamine in the brain, which in turn makes it a highly addictive drug. Cocaine is also referred to as blow, coke, crack, rock, and snow, it has these many different names because of its highly recognizable white powdery makeup. Cocaine is used for medical purposes with an injection to the are needing the anesthesia, but on the street, is used used by snorting it into the nose, but as crack in its solid form it is smoked. The affects of cocaine when used as a drug are extreme happiness and energy, mental alertness, hypersensitivity to sight, sound, and touch, irritability, and extreme paranoia. …show more content…
Cocaine is often displayed on TV and popular culture in a very striking and interesting way, so I wanted to learn more about it. Another reason is because one of my favorite shows to watch is Gangland on VICE and they had a really interesting special about cocaine and how its produced. I wanted to learn about why taking cocaine made someone so energetic and why that was seen as a party drug, but crack was seen as a street drug, or if there was any difference between the two at all. One of my favorite movie actors, Robert Downey Junior, was also at one point addicted to cocaine and described it as the hardest this he has had to overcome in his entire life, so seeing why its so addictive was also one of my reasons for choosing
