In attempt to start a race war, Charles Manson created a murderous cult that would eventually make him criminally infamous. The cult leader was born to a sixteen-year-old in Cincinnati Ohio in 1934. His mother wanted nothing to do with him and Charles was abandoned. As a small child, he lived on the streets and began committing minor crimes. He moved to San Francisco in the 1960’s when drugs were quite popular. Manson’s cult was named The Family and they killed for Manson. They, influenced by Manson, strongly believed in Scientology and that Armageddon was inevitable. What is mysterious about Manson though, is that he is not believed to have directly participated in any murders.

Planning to murder rich, white people, Manson would then make it look like black people had done it. This, he believed would start a race war. On August 9th, 1969, was his first shocking murder, and it was of Sharon Tate, a famous actress. She was killed at the address of 10050 Cielo drive, in Beverly Hills. During this trial, The Family members were found guilty of killing Tate and LaBianca. Watson was originally tried for the murders, until other members were revealed for participating. Thankfully, Manson was tried and charged with murder. Every other defendant that was tried was found guilty and given death sentences. Soon after, the State of California changed their death penalty laws. Life in prison was then sentenced to The Family. Linda Kasabian was sworn in as a witness and was not punished since she kept watch during the crimes. Denied parole for the 11th time, Charles Manson is still imprisoned at McNeil island prison in Washington
