Charles Chuck Close (Born July 5th, 1940) is an American painter and photographer how had received most of his publicity from his art work as a photorealist from his large scale portraits. Close also often paints abstract portraits that are shown in the world's finest galleries. Although a spinal artery collapse in 1988 left him severely paralyzed, he still continues to paint and produce artwork which is still sought by museums and collectors. Close now live and also works in Bridgehampton, New York. His first wife was Leslie Rose with whom he has two daughters. They finally divorced in 2011 and is now married to artist Sienna Shields.
Most of his early works are very large portraits based on photographs (By the Photorealism or Hyperrealism technique) of his family and friends and sometimes other artists. He suggested that his psychological condition is what inspired him to create artwork. Close suffers from Prosopagnosia (Face Blindness) which is a condition where the brain has an inability to recognise the faces of familiar people, typically as a result of brain damage.
