Long-Term Care Administrators Long-term care (LTC) industry is predicted to experience a significant growth because of the simultaneous aging of the baby boomers, and consequently, their need for long-term care. Thus, the jobs or duties of LTC administrators will become more demanding, and more stressful. There are, however, some traits and training that LTC administrators will need in order to succeed. LTC administrator’s job is not for the faint-hearted because the job entails a lot of hard work. Consequently, for long-term administrators to be effective in nursing homes and home care organizations, there are some training they need to have and some traits they need to possess.

Since LTC involves continuity of care after being discharged from a hospital after an acute episode, post-acute LTC can be given in both institutional and community-based environment.
Differences within an Institutional and Community-Based Organizational Environment
1. Care is provided for in nursing homes or assisted living facilities in the institutionalized environment while care is provided for at home, adult day care or hospice in the community-based environment.
2. Institutions provide care round-the-clock and day in, day out while care in community-based is sometimes on an as-needed basis, like the adult day care.
3. Consumers who can help themselves with activities of daily living are cared for in home-based environment while those consumers who cannot help with activities of daily living are institutionalized.
3. Developmentally disabled and mentally retarded individuals tend to function in a home-based or community-based residential settings rather than in institutions like nursing homes (CITATION).
4. Most times, the elderly prefers to stay in their homes, or age in place, rather than being institutionalized, but once there is a severe decline in health, institutionalization may become
